Situational Reaction and Combat Training

WingChun Combat Training is offered every second month at the IAW Headquarters. The exact dates are listed on the Events schedule.

For over 3 years, some of our Group and Academy Leaders have prepared for assessment as a Combat Instructor. Those who have regularly attended Combat Classes for 3 years and are at least the First Technician Grade can apply. After the test in November 2009, I will present the new Combat Instructors on this page. At the end of the year, these teachers will offer Combat Training in all Groups and Academies of the IAW. The aim is to establish at least one Combat Class per quarter in each of our training locations.

Mastery of the Combat Programs is an important part of the examination for advanced students. For over 10 years, the Combat Class has been an essential complement to WingChun lessons. A special feature of the training is an informal and flexible program in which all WingChun students, from the Basic to the Technician Stage, learn the same applications. Combat is about spontaneity and autonomy. The common distances from the Graduation programs of WingChun are deliberately not complied with. In particular, defensive capabilities in close range are the substance of Combat. The unexpected is trained in Combat. The basis of practice is defense against locking, grabbing, throwing as well as knee and elbow attacks. All situations of Self-Defense that are not optimal but still possible, take place at the Combat Training. Furthermore, Combat is highly regarded by many as fitness conditioning. All in all, it is a perfect addition to regular WingChun classes that students, especially advanced ones, should take advantage of at least once a quarter.

For Combat Training, there is no prerequisite. Combat is for those who seek to be prepared for anything at all times.

Yours,
